Chesapeake, VA – Junior LF Mark McCormick went 4-for-4 with two doubles and drove in all five runs as Centreville defeated Greenbrier Christian, 5-4, tonight to improve to 2-0 on the young season.
The Wildcats rallied from a 2-0 deficit to take a 3-2 lead in the second inning off a three-run double by McCormick, then took a 5-2 advantage on a two-run base hit by the junior in the fifth. The run support for senior LHP Ryan Ashooh would hold up against the Gators (0-1), which were 27-2 and won the Virginia Independent School (VIS) Division II state championship last year.
Ashooh, in his first start of the season, struck out six, walked four and allowed four runs over six innings to pick up the win. Connor Bach got out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the seventh to pick up the save.
Centreville is next in action tomorrow against Cape Henry Collegiate in Virginia Beach at 12 p.m.
