Centreville Drops Opener to Marshall, 9-0

Clifton, Va. – The Centreville baseball team managed just one hit and dropped its season-opener, 9-0, to visiting Marshall on Friday night.

The Wildcats struggled to find an answer for Statesmen junior left-handed Mitch McKeith, who threw six innings to pick up the victory and also hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Centreville starter Mitch Mahoney allowed just one run through the first five innings in his first varsity start before being removed down 4-0 with one out in the sixth inning.

The Wilcats will look to bounce back when they travel to take on Loudoun Valley, which dropped a 12-1 decision to Westfield in its season open on Friday. Junior Mitch Ferrick will take the mound and make his first varsity start against the Vikings. Game time is 6 p.m. at Fireman’s Field in Purcellville.
