Time to Celebrate the Seniors

Senior Night Dinner is a Home Run

Friday night, May 2nd , the Wildcats took a break from the field and took time to honor and bid farewell to their two seniors, Mickey Bozek and Nick Ellis.
Coaches and players were treated to a fajita meal from Moe’s and chocolate cake to honor not only the seniors, but Nick’s 18th birthday. Note of trivia: last year’s senior dinner also fell on Nick’s birthday - this year being more special, though since he was the senior being honored and turned 18.
Mickey and Nick were roasted by juniors Jamey Collidge, Kyle Hall, and sophomore Connor Bach.
Mickey and Nick wore forks in their hats for some odd senior ritual as their awards were read with wit and style by the underclassmen baseball teammates  -
Mickey received honors for -
* Most Likely To Have Bird Build a Nest in His Hair While Catching a Fly Ball
* Most Likely to Leave a Game Early When Jessica Simpson is in Town and Is Available for a Date - this top honor came with a prized t-shirt signed by none other than Jessica herself by her photo
* Most Likely to Not Need One of These at West Point - a mirror and a hair pick and this award came with a mirror and hair pick to use now in these last days of civilian life!
* Most Likely to Need a Chiropractor - as noted this season for his collision in Florida
* Best Text Messenger
Nick received honors for -
* Most Likely To Need One of These - an alarm clock and this top honor came with a t-shirt that listed his baseball rules (all in great fun!)
* Most Likely to Wear His Hat Backwards (after the season is over)
* Most Likely to Date the Coach’s Daughter
* Most Likely to Need a Gift Certificate for All You Can Eat Wings (and he got one!)
* Most Likely to be the Last Senior to Get His Driver’s License (and he got one!)
Coach Spencer also took time to recognize the academic accomplishments of Coach Matt Hildreth, a.k.a. the Professor, who, after years of study, has completed the requirements to graduate with his under-graduate degree at George Mason University.
The night could not have happened with out the great support of the following:
Shana Collidge - for ordering napkins embossed with Wildcats; making centerpieces for the table; making favors for the two seniors - beautiful buckets of fun items and keepsakes that will be treasured; for making the awards for the seniors to keep; for helping Margie Bozek decorate the room and get the food collected and set up from Moe’s; helping to serve the food and clean up
Lisa Ellis - for ordering the cake for Nick and Mickey and helping to serve the food and clean up
Jaylynn Viands - for helping to serve and clean up
Cindy Hall - coordinating the collection of funds and soda distribution
Everyone! for donating money to the night and sodas to drink
Thanks to the coaches for allowing this event to take place and supporting all of us in our efforts to honor the seniors.
Please remember to join us on the field at Centreville High School on 5 May, Monday before the game - at about 6:15 - when Mickey and Nick and families take the field for a Senior Night baseball tradition. Then of course stay to watch the game - game time 6:30 - as the Wildcats take on the visiting Herndon Hornets for the last home game this season!

Bozek Does It All In Wild Win Over Fairfax

April 16, 2008, Clifton, Va. — Mickey Bozek hit a home run, stole home, got hit by a pitch, drove in two runs and if the offense wasn’t good enough, he started an inning-ending double play…from right field as the Wildcats dropped Fairfax 12-2 in earning their first home victory of the season. VHSL rules state that a game is over when one team has a ten-run advantage at the end of an inning, past the fourth inning.

Bozek’s defensive gem came in the second inning when Mauricio Arias lifted a one-out pitch from Ryan Ashooh (complete game, win, six walks, eight strikeouts). With Grant Cole on second base tagging on the play, Bozek made the catch in deep right-center and came up throwing. The throw beat Cole to the bag where J. P. Nicholas (0-for-2, walked twice, reached on an error twice, four runs) made the tag.

The score was 3-1 in favor of the Wildcats at the time that they actually trailed early on. Leadoff batter Patrick Gidders walked and wound up scoring on a double-steal attempt that nabbed Joe Riley-Ryan in a run-down between first and second. Bozek then matched his Fairfax leadoff counter part, but got credit for the steal of home when Chris Campbell (2-for-4, two runs, stolen base) successfully made it to second. The Wildcats pulled off another double steal in the third inning when Nick Ellis (1-for-3, run, three RBI) scored while Zach Underhill (courtesy runner for Kyle Hall) swiped second. Underhill took second in the second inning when Shane Mondloch (1-for-2, stolen base) took third on another double steal.

The big inning for the Wildcats came in the fourth, already leading 6-2. The Wildcats plated five while sending 11 to the plate and facing three different pitchers in the frame. Bozek led off the inning with his home run then drove in the final run of the inning when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. In between, Campbell singled, Cam Walter grounded out, Nicholas walked and wound up scoring on an error, Connor Bach (3-for-4, run, RBI) singled and scored on a pair of wild pitches, Ellis lined out to second, Andy Viands (0-for-1, walk, hit by pitch, run) was hit by a pitch, Mondloch walked and Bob McMican (pinch hitting for Hall) was hit by a pitch. Campbell flew out to left to end the inning. In all, the Wildcats scored five runs, on three hits, just one error in the inning by Fairfax, walked twice, had three batters hit by a pitch and took advantage of three wild pitches.

It was a wild game indeed as Fairfax pitchers combined for six walks, four wild pitches, and the defense committed five errors and allowed six stolen bases.

Centreville will host Chantilly Friday night at 6:30 p.m. in another Concorde District game.
